From Out In The
Moonlight

The Moonlight Drought we’re trying to get through has been longer than
any previous drought, however, Moonlight having the kind of fans it
does, everyone has been very supportive of one another during this rough
time.
Not all of us are lucky enough to have family members and/or friends who
understand our addiction and who are tolerant of our ramblings and our
need to watch and re-watch the show endlessly.
Fan boards such as MoonlightLine.com, MoonlightFans.com and
Moonlight-Detective.com have helped to give us the support we very
possibly could not have found elsewhere, and who would not have started
considering staging an Intervention on our behalf.
We started the Keep It Dark Campaign, where we the fans refused to watch
anything on any channel on Friday nights between 8 pm and 10 pm Eastern
and Pacific time, (or whenever Moonlight and Ghost Whisperer would
normally run in our area).
Instead, we would watch streaming videos on CBS’ website and/or watch
our TiVo’d recordings of the show.
Anything to show The Eye that we were not interested in
alternative fare on their network.
All we wanted and still want on Friday nights at 9pm Eastern and
Pacific time is Moonlight. That is just the way it is.
We continued to support one another with clever snarks done to screen
captures and publicity photos.

Some people wrote out detailed character archetypes that created
even more discussion and drew us even further into our beloved show and
those who people it.

People had personal issues, posted them to their respective
boards and received an incredible outpouring of support from the people
who had come to know them through the extended family that is our
Moonlight fan community. It
had become apparent long ago that the fan boards had gone from simply
being a place to share our addiction to a place where we had real
connections that meant something to us all.
We got word that the Paley Center for Entertainment in Los Angeles
(http://www.paleycenter.org) would be having a Moonlight-themed
presentation and we waited with bated breath for the full announcement
to be made as to when and where this would finally occur.
The folks at the Paley Center very quickly became aware that
Moonlight fans are dedicated, loyal, and virtually unstoppable.
One fan called them and was actually told by the person who
answered the phone that the fans were “rabid” and even mentioned the
upcoming Moonlight Convention that will be held Memorial Day weekend
this year.
Once the tickets went on sale (as part of a three event subscription
series) the fans snapped them up not caring that they were paying
essentially three times the price of the ticket in order to only get one
ticket that really meant anything to them.
As an aside, I can’t help but wonder at what the final attendance
for the other two panels will look like.
There will have been nearly every ticket sold out, but how many
empty seats will this translate to when all is said and done, for the
Bones and The Riches folks?
I do feel a very small amount of guilt for this situation, but I will
admit that my primary goal was to secure my Moonlight ticket.
Then, a little less than a month or so ago, we got word that the show
would be returning with new episodes on April 25th 2008.
Immediately, a great huzzah went up through the Moonlighter
Collective and excitement built wildly.
We are nothing if not loyal to our favorite vampires.
We finally had a target date and could plan things, but some were
upset that there would be no buildup to the new episodes with at least a
few repeat episodes.
Fast forward a couple weeks and we suddenly received news that CBS would
be running The Mortal Cure on April 18th.
That shortened the drought by a whole week.
You would have thought that someone had handed fans a solid gold
script.
Excitement is riding high once more and we are eagerly awaiting April 18th,
when we can once again sink our teeth into this wonderful show.
Until then, we have our fellow fans to keep our morale up and to
keep us updated on the latest Moonlight information.
