When Operation: Renew Moonlight was first announced, a passionate debate regarding the wisdom in asking fans to each send Nina Tassler, CBS Entertainment President, a clove of garlic in a protective plastic bag immediately began. Fandoms, much like families, when putting forth one’s opinion, unfortunately use words with negative connation and using the term “gimmick” when describing this fan campaign belittles the intent of Operation: Renew Moonlight.

However, the most hurtful and harmful result of this debate was an assumption from past remarks by some of the leaders of the three biggest Moonlight boards that Operation: Renew Moonlight was the idea from TPTB. We assure the many fans of Moonlight that this is not true. Operation: Renew Moonlight has and will always be a fan-based, grassroots campaign. TPTB are not in the business of manufacturing fan campaigns. It only took a few disgruntled fans to jump to a conclusion after cherry picking these past remarks and with the speed of the Internet, a deliberate and wholly-unsubstantiated conclusion went out to Moonlight fandoms, before the leaders could address this misinformation.

Operation: Renew Moonlight’s intent was to create a rallying point for the fans and to be pro-active in creating buzz for the return of our beloved show on April 18th (repeating episode 12 “The Mortal Cure”) preceding four new episodes beginning Friday, April 25th at 9pm ET/PT. It is not a secret that the ratings of these episodes will directly affect CBS’s decision whether or not to renew Moonlight for a second season.

One thing that all Moonlight fandom’s can agree upon is that we all want Moonlight to be renewed for a second season. If your decision is not to send garlic, then please, send letters and/or postcards requesting a second season of Moonlight to Nina Tassler.

Lastly, no matter if a campaign is seen as philanthropic or how many cloves and/or letters are sent to Ms. Tassler, if the ratings are not there for these four episodes, Moonlight will not be renewed. So we are asking that all Moonlight fans come together, put aside our differences, for our beloved show. Let’s work together to get the word out that the four remaining episodes of Season 1 begin Friday, April 25th at 9pm EST. Ask any and all friends, family, or the “undead” to watch. In vampire solidarity. Rah, rah, rah!
